Weekend in Aspen

Dave and I just returned from a wonderful fall weekend in and around Aspen. We used a variety of justifications for our weekend getaway.... celebration of our upcoming five year wedding anniversary, together time before our little one is born, and a last glimpse of fall colors before winter settles in.

On our drive out, we stopped to explore Twin Lakes which is 44 miles east of Aspen on the other side of Independence Pass. We enjoyed the crisp fall weather as we took a short walk on the beach of one of the two natural lakes that base Mount Elbert, Colorado's highest 14er. My big, 29 week pregnant belly taking it all in...

We also enjoyed a scenic fall drive out to Maroon Lake, about 10 miles southwest of Aspen. From the lake we had a fantastic view of the Maroon Bells, using this as our backdrop for a packed picnic lunch. Such a peaceful location... the sun glistened perfectly off the water. We fell in love with this area and hope to return for hiking and camping after the baby is born.

We spent Saturday night at a downtown historic hotel that we discovered last fall when we stayed in Aspen to run a half marathon. Yesterday afternoon and this morning we took long, slow walks around town window shopping, eating out, and simply enjoying our time together. A refreshing weekend away filled with conversations about our upcoming life changes. So fun to dream about these exciting changes as we plan and prepare for life with our son, moving to Kansas City, buying our first home, etc., etc.!

Our hotel, Independence Square Hotel, and downtown Aspen...

Some pregnancy pictures from our walk...
